More than one in six Brits are unhappy with the size of the rooms in their house, according to a new survey.

What’s more, the poll – undertaken by tradesmen search website ratedpeople.com – has revealed that a desire for bigger rooms is the biggest motivation for Brits looking to move house.

Responding to the figures, Dermot Steedman – a builder listed on the website – pointed out that home-owners would be financially better off if they added a large conversion or an extension to their home instead of moving.

In fact, aol.co.uk report that a typical improvement to a three-bedroom house – including all the trimmings like window shutters - costs an average of £56,122 less than moving to a larger home. This overwhelming saving might encourage Brits to expand their homes through adding on an extra building or conservatory – something which many have already done, according to Steedman.

In an interview with myintroducer.com, he said: “I’ve seen a noticeable increase over the past couple of years in the number of extensions and conversion projects being undertaken by home-owners.

“Increasing the size of their current home, instead of moving, is often a financial and lifestyle choice. Conversions and extensions are usually cheaper and less risky than moving and a well planned project will nearly always add value to the property.”
